Former Ebonyi State Governor and Minister of Works, David Umahi has once again said that the 2027 presidential election will be a walkover for President Bola Tinubu in the South-East as the people in the region, particularly in Ebonyi, will throw their weight behind the President.

Umahi who said this on Saturday during the Ohanivo 2025 New Yam Festival in Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi, also took a dig at the presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, stating that the former Anambra State governor does not stand any chance against Tinubu.

The Minister also dismissed the influence of the OBIdient Movement in the region, insisting that the South-East is no longer aligned with the OBIdient Movement because of years of political marginalisation which made the people of the region make a u-turn in their political allegiance and their dreams have been realized with Tinubu.

Umahi said, “We are not OBIdient people. We have been so marginalised that we are no longer OBIdient. No, we are not. But it is the man that has given us a sense of belonging, President Bola Tinubu. Let it not be that we are from Ebonyi State and they are saying this state belongs to us. There is no OBIdient person in Ebonyi,” Umahi said.

The former governor maintained that Tinubu has demonstrated goodwill towards the South-East, and the region will in turn reward him by voting for him in 2027.

“What we have to do is to record the good things that President Bola Tinubu has done for South-East and Ebonyi State when the time comes. We will not be deceived again because the last election was a mistake, but we have come to be wiser. I will not finish naming all that the President is doing for us.

“Let me use this opportunity to appreciate our dear President; I am addressing the southeast people. I am addressing those who darken council without knowledge, I am addressing those who don’t understand what’s going on in Southeast, I am addressing those who have occupied the social media – I have told them, Ebonyi State, we are not Obidient people. We have been so marginalized and we are no longer Obidient,” Umahi added.
