Abia State Government says the Monthly Sanitation Exercise for the month of September, will hold on Saturday, September 27, 2025 between the hours of 7:00am and 10:00am.
A statement signed by the Commissioner , Ministry of Environment, Mr.Philemon Ogbonna and made available to newsmen on Thursday by the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry, Mrs Obioma Chidinma Success, says movement of people and vehicles during the period shall be restricted except those on essential duties who would be required to present on demand, valid identification or any authentic authorization for such exemption.
The statement charged Executive Chairmen (Mayors) of the Local Government Councils , Traditional rulers,Town Union Leaders, Religious Leaders,Youth and Women Organizations in the State to monitor and sensitize their people on the importance of the exercise and to participate as well.
The statement further stated that all markets, motor parks, private and public transport companies as well as business premises are to remain closed on Friday September 26, 2025 between the hours of 7:00am and 9:00am to carry out their own clean-up exercise, adding that there will be tippers on Saturday to cart away the refuse scooped out from the gutters.
While acknowledging the role played by the Nigeria Police, Federal Road Safety Corps, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps during the exercise, the release reminded them that they are to assemble at their usual place of take-off for deployment.
The release further directed that people are to stay at home, clean up their areas and must work with their nose mask, noting that defaulters shall be arrested and prosecuted in line with the Abia State Basic Environmental Law.
