Murder of Catholic Priest: Enugu CP Tasks Men to Go After Killers

The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, Mamman Giwa, has directed his men to go after killers of a Catholic priest, Matthew Eya, in the state.

Recall that Mr Eya was shot dead at night on September 19, on the Eha-Ndiagu Eha-Etiti Road in Eha-Alumona, Nsukka Local Government Area of the state.

In a statement on Sunday in Enugu by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Daniel Ndukwe, the CP ordered that the killers of the priest must be traced and brought to book.

Mr Ndukwe said the CP ordered the Area Commander, Udenu Area Command and Heads of Tactical and Operational Units in the Command to fish out the killers.

He informed that in the interim, police operatives under the Udenu Area command’s coverage had detained 38 suspects, following bush combing and raids of different blackspots in the area.

The CP stated, “Incriminating exhibits were recovered, while the suspects are currently undergoing screening.”

According to the Enugu State Police spokesperson, the CP reaffirmed the commitment of the police to leave no stone unturned in apprehending the perpetrators of the heinous crime and bringing them to justice just as he commiserated with the immediate family of the deceased and the Catholic Church.
