The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Ikioye Orutugu (CP) on Tuesday addressed the press to commemorate his six months in office.
While addressing Journalists, CP Orutugu said the past seven months he has spent policing Anambra State has been so challenging and rewarding at the same time.
He stated that the major achievement he has recorded is the restoration of public confidence in the ability of the police force, saying, “The first issue I confronted when I was posted to Anambra was the escape of a suspect in murder of Hon Justice Azuka, but leveraging on the our information gathering mechanism, the suspect has been rearrested.
“In the period under review, 300 arms, 20 explosives, over 1000 ammunition and 30 vehicles were recovered. We have also destroyed 5 criminal camps, 200 cultists, separatists were arrested.
“We have been able to empower men and officers through the mechanism of Police Officers Wives Association(POWA), the command has radically transformed Rapid Response Squad (RRS) Awkuzu to a tourist center. We trained vigilante and Agunechemba which we trained on humanitarian law.
“Worthy of note is successful hosting of the President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces by Anambra State, there was no single security incident all through the period, it’s not a mean achievement,” he said.
The Anambra CP Orutugu said with relish the command secured judgements in over one hundred cases just as he lauded sister security agencies for their collaborations and cooperation which is responsible for the outstanding success recorded by the command under his watch.
He equally appreciated media practitioners in Anambra State under the leadership of Dr Odogwu Emeka Odogwu for their positivism and professionalism, stressing that the fourth estate of the realm has been partner in progress.
