Abia State Police Command says it has apprehended suspected armed robbers/cultists while conducting stop-and-search operations at Umuagu by School Signboard, Umuahia North LGA of the State.
Giving further details, the Police revealed that men of the Command, flagged down an autorickshaw (Keke Napep) with registration number MBL801VJ, blue colour, which led to the arrest of the suspected robbers and cultists.
The Command also said the Keke Napep had five occupants including the rider, adding that exhibits were recovered and have been taken into custody, as investigation is ongoing.
A statement made available to newsmen on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Abia State Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka, revealed that while searching the suspects, operatives recovered one locally made short pistol, three live cartridges, one double-edged machete, one battle axe, one black face mask, and one sachet of substances suspected to be Indian Hemp and the Auto-rickshaw ( keke napep).
According to DSP Chinaka, the Keke Napep rider had pretended that the tricycle developed fault when stopped, which aided two of the occupants to jump out and escape.
Meanwhile, three suspects were apprehended including: Udaka Justin, male, Chukwuebuka Michael Nnebedun, male and Prince David male.
Reacting to the feat attained by his men, the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Danladi Isa, reiterated the Command’s commitment to reducing crime in Abia State to the barest minimum.
