The Abia State Environmental Protection Agency ASEPA, has called on communities in the state to desist from burning heaps of refuse due to its health hazards.

ASEPA, admonished communities that instead of embarking on such practice, they should form strong partnership with the Agency and communicate appropriately to evacuate heaps of refuse that deface the aesthetics of the State.

This is even as the Agency says it has concluded arrangement to come up with a reward system for any community in the State that emerges the cleanest while the dirtiest community will be announced as well, adding that the whole idea is to emphasize the premium the current administration under Governor Alex Otti places on environmental cleanliness of Abia State.

Catechist Ambrose Jonah, Deputy General Manager ASEPA, Umuahia zone, who stated these on Wednesday at an engagement held at the Umuahia North Council Headquarters between President Generals from Umuahia North and South, urged the PGs to assist in enhancing the environmental cleanliness of the State.

He reminded them that the Governor Alex Otti led administration in the State is unrelenting in his effort to ensure that the disturbing story over the years about Abia State and poor waste management is changed, hence they should be partners in progress to ensure that Abia State becomes the cleanest State in Nigeria.
