Participants at a two-day stepdown meeting on the Operation modalities of the National Community-led Monitoring plan on HIV/ AIDS response in Umuahia, the state Capital, have made case for the implementation of CLM framework at state level.
Southeastposts reports that the meeting, which aimed at keeping stakeholders abreast of Operational modalities of Community-led Monitoring CLM and Community System Strengthening CSS in the HIV AIDS response, provided the participants opportunity to make contributions and assess the operational modalities.
In her message, the Director General of Abia’ state Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDS, Dr Uloaku Ukaegbu, noted that community-led Monitoring CLM is necessary as it will ensure effective HIV /AiDS response through improved data collection and feedback mechanisms, as well as accountability.
Dr Ukaegbu, who spoke through the HOD Monitoring and Evaluation in the Agency, Mr Ndubuisi Kanu, explained that the state, through the Agency, is doing a lot in HIV/AIDS response and pledges more commitment to a result-oriented approach.
In his presentation, the state Co-ordinator, Acomin Mr Richard Okoro, described CLM and CSS as welcome developments, pointing out that they are models that encourage community participation, which entails effective data collection, accountability and ownership in HIV AiDS response, TB and malaria.
He emphasised the need for ownership of the HIV /AIDS response by the Government through adequate funding
In his contribution, the Southeast Coordinator NEPWAN, Chief Whyte Ikocha, said that the new framework CLM and CSS brings all stakeholders together in HIV/AIDS, TB, and Malaria response, which he said will go a long way in achieving a better result.
In her message, the State Coordinator of the National Human Rights Commission, Mrs Uche Nwokocha, represented by Mr Uche Ahuaka, said that the agency’s door is always open to deal with the issue of human rights abuse and violence against the rights of those living with HIV/AIDS, among others.
Contributing, the State Program Co-ordinator, NEPWAN Mrs Rebecca Ezeh maintained that proper implementation of the CLM and CSS, which involves the key stakeholders, including Government, communities, working together as developed at the National level, will guarantee sustainability in the HIV/AIDS, TB, and malaria response.
