Ahead the Anambra State governorship election billed for November 8, candidate of the Action Alliance (AA), Chief Jeff Nweke, has raised the alarm over the growing trend of derogatory statements among politicians.
In a statement, Nweke cautioned that such legendary misspeaks not only undermine the unity of the country but also diminish the integrity of those who indulge in them.
According to him, “Politics is a natural phenomenon. It’s part of who we are,” Nweke said, emphasizing that politics should be used as a tool for positive influence, not character assassination.
Referencing Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s earlier remarks about politics being a platform for meaningful change, Nweke agreed, stating that change is a constant river that sweeps away outdated patterns and replaces them with fresh approaches.
Continuing, “Old ways may not be entirely bad,” he admitted, “but striving for better must never stop. Having multiple ideas and strategies shouldn’t be seen as division—it’s innovation.”
Nweke enjoined his fellow candidates to shun the temptation of using inflammatory language and instead embrace issue-based campaigns that focus on solving the people’s problems.
He added,“Let’s stop these verbal attacks. Let’s show maturity and sportsmanship. Anambra is ready for something better—and we must rise to that expectation.”
