The Imo State Chapter of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, has insisted that Governor Hope Uzodimma’s silence over the killings of innocent citizens at Ideato North LGA indicates that he does not care about the welfare of his people.

PDP observed that since July 24, when the incident happened, Uzodimma is yet to make a public statement regarding the sad development.

In a statement made available to journalists through the party’s spokesperson, Lancelot Obiaku, said such incident of that magnitude could have warranted the Governor to address the State and pay a condolence visit to the area.

He stated that the leadership of the party received the news of the incident with deep sorrow, and wished to reiterate that the mindless killings of innocent people are uncalled for and have no place in the culture of the State.

“The party commiserates with the families and friends of the victims, the entire Arondizuogu and Umualaoma villages, Ideato North, and all Imolites who are sorrowing following the carnage.

“Continuing, “Regrettably, last Thursday’s attack added to a growing list of recent security breaches that claimed the lives of innocent Imolites.

“On May 8, in what has become a routine strike in the LGA, unknown gunmen launched an attack in Umuna in Okigwe LGA, burning over twenty trucks, razing shops, and reportedly taking more than 20 innocent lives, leaving many families in agony.

“Two days earlier, a sad incident occurred in Ngor-Okpala where 26 passengers were kidnapped on the Owerri-Aba road, and one of them was reportedly shot dead on the spot by suspected Fulani terrorists. The whereabouts of the remaining 25 are still unknown,” the release stated.

Imo PDP noted that Agwa Community in Oguta LGA of the State experienced heinous attacks within the year, in addition, Amakohia-Ubi in Owerri West LGA also witnessed constant lethal strikes lately.

The party’s spokesperson added that many communities are presently facing cases of kidnapping, terrorism activities, and other social vices.

He cited communities like Avu, Obinze, and Okuku as clear cases of kidnapping, ritual killings, and terrorist attacks which he claimed are spreading like wildfire across the State.

Obiaku regretted that it is very unfortunate that after days of the latest tragedy, the Governor has failed to show any form of concern whatsoever for the people slaughtered.
