Enugu State Commissioner for Information, Dr Malachy Agbo, says the State Government under Governor Peter Mbah is out to tackle misinformation, calling on members of staff of the ministry to intensify their efforts in informing residents about the policies, programmes, and achievements of the government under Governor Peter Mbah.
Recall that the governor had last week reshuffled his cabinet, swearing in a new Head of Service, six new commissioners, and reassigning three others.
Southeastposts reports that Agbo was among the three reassigned commissioners, moving from the Ministry of Human Development and Poverty Eradication to the Ministry of Information.
He replaced Aka Eze, who resigned as information commissioner to contest the local government election for Udenu Local Government Area.
Speaking during his maiden meeting with the management and staff of the ministry on Tuesday, Dr Agbo said the public deserved to be promptly and professionally updated on government interventions designed to improve the living standards of Ndi Enugu.
He said, “It is our duty to ensure that the people of Enugu State are kept fully aware of what the government is doing to make their lives better.
“We must take this responsibility seriously, using every available communication channel to engage the public and ensure facts are not twisted by mischief makers,” Agbo said.
Agbo noted that his deployment to the ministry was to promote public awareness and understanding of the state government’s developmental interventions across various sectors.
According to the commissioner, “The Enugu State Government, led by Dr Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, is doing a lot to transform the state. We must ensure these efforts are visible to the people.”
He noted the importance of collective effort and professionalism among staff members, pledging to address operational bottlenecks within the ministry, assuring that necessary realignments would be made to ensure optimal performance.
Agbo promised to reassign duties where necessary to harness the full capacity of the workforce while urging staff members to remain resilient, united, and dedicated in the discharge of their responsibilities, noting that effective communication was key to strengthening public trust in government.
The interactive meeting offered the workers the opportunity to share ideas and pledge their support for the commissioner.
Speaking on behalf of the management and staff, the Head of Department, Administration and Supplies, Mrs Ugochukwu Adimora, promised their full cooperation in advancing the goals of the ministry.
