Abia Airport: Govt, Landowners Strike Landmark Agreement On Areas of Concern

All Landowners with claims at the Abia Airport land acquisition, in Nsulu, have been advised to suspend going to the Ministry of Lands to sign indemnity forms until the conclusion of the review.

A statement signed Sunday evening and made available to newsmen by Rt. Hon. Uzo Azubuike, Leader, Abia Airport Landowners Representatives Team, revealed that this development, is the outcome of a meeting held on Thursday, June 12, 2025, between representatives of the Landowners and the Abia State Government.

According to the statement, the meeting was convened to address concerns regarding the payment of compensation for the acquired lands while it was also resolved that the government will collaborate with their consultants and Landowners’ attorneys to rework the valuation and ensure adequate compensation within one week.

The Team assured the people of Nsulu that they will continue to engage the government reasonably and responsibly to protect the rights of the people and facilitate the actualization of the Airport project.

While appreciating the Abia state government for their co-operation and understanding, the team also lauded the State Government for always paying attention to all the concerns raised by the Landowners.

The statement reads: We bring to your attention the outcome of a meeting held on Thursday, June 12, 2025, between representatives of the Landowners and the Abia State Government.

“The meeting was convened to address concerns regarding the payment of compensation for the acquired lands. After thorough deliberations, it was resolved that the government will collaborate with their consultants and Landowners’ attorneys to rework the valuation and ensure adequate compensation within one week.

“In light of this development, we advise all Landowners with pending claims to *suspend going to the Ministry of Lands to sign indemnity forms* until the conclusion of the review.We assure our people that we will continue to engage the government reasonably and responsibly to protect the rights of our people and facilitate the actualization of the Airport project.

“We thank the Abia state government team for always paying attention to all the concerns raised by the Landowners.”
