No fewer than 10 persons have been reportedly killed at various locations in Okigwe, Imo State, South-East Nigeria.
Southeastposts, learnt that the killings which happened on Thursday morning at various locations in Okigwe, instilled fear in residents of Okigwe.
A sources who spoke to Southeastposts on condition of anonymity, said the assailants killed the victims at a wake-keeping in Okigwe, Imo State.

The source further stated that other victims were ambushed by the assailants at Ogii, Umuokpara among other locations while coming back from wake-keeping and were left in their pool of blood before community members recovered their corpses.

According to the source, “We started hearing gunshots at about 3am on Thursday morning. Then later in the morning, we heard shouts and cries. The dead bodies were gathered somewhere and they were young men and women.”
Continuing,”Those people went to a burial wake-keeping when some people came and started shooting and many of them were killed. Those who were not there were ambushed and killed in other locations.”

“If you count the bodies, they were more than ten of them. This happened in Umuokpara, Ogii and other places.”
Pictures and videos trending on social media showed the lifeless bodies of the victims with voices of sympathisers heard in the background trying to identify the victims by their names.

When Southeastposts contacted the Police Public Relations Officer, Imo State Police Command, SP Henry Okoye, he did not pick his call nor respond to text message sent to him by our reporter.
Recall that there has been ceaseless attacks by unknown gunmen in Okigwe for years, while there has not been concrete steps to unmask those behind the killings.
