Abia Monthly Sanitation Exercise Holds Saturday between 7am to 9 am

Abia State Government has announced that the monthly sanitation exercise for May will take place on Saturday, May 31st, 2025, between the hours of 7:00 am and 9:00 am.

A statement made available to newsmen by the Public Relations Officer Ministry of Environment, Obioma Chidinma, signed by the Commissioner for Environment, Mr. Philemon Ogbonna, stated that during the exercise, movement of people and vehicles shall be restricted, except those on essential duties who will be required to present valid identification or authorization for exemption.

The release called on the Executive Chairmen (Mayors), Traditional Rulers, Town Union Leaders, Religious Leaders, Youth, and Women Organizations to monitor and sensitize their people on the importance of the exercise.

The Commissioner further directed that all markets, motor parks, private and public transport companies, and business premises are expected to carry out their own clean-up exercise during the designated hours while tippers will be available to cart away refuse.

The statement advised personnel of the Nigeria Police, Federal Road Safety Corps, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps to assemble at their usual take-off point for onward movement.

Residents are however, advised to stay at home, clean up their surroundings and wear nose masks during the exercise just as the release warned that defaulters will be arrested and prosecuted in line with the Abia State Basic Environmental Law.
