No fewer than an 100 people on Saturday joined the All Progressives Congress APC, Olokoro Ward 2 from other political parties in the State.
Their defection to the APC coincided with the enlarged meeting of the Ahia Ukwu Olokoro Ward 2, Umuahia South LGA of Abia State held on Saturday at the instance of Chief Chidi Avuaja.
Speaking while receiving the members, Chief Chidi Avuaja, the Party’s State Secretary, commended the decampees for taking the bold step of joining the All Progressives Congress APC, assuring them that their interests will be protected.
He charged them to continue drawing members to the party while advising them to conform with the constitution and shun acts that will jeopardize the chances of the party in 2027.
Speaking on behalf of the decampees, a former Permanent Secretary in Abia State Civil Service, Chief Dike Nzenwa, said they are happy to join the moving train, pledging to work so as to strengthen the party further.
Earlier, a stalwart of the All Progressives Congress APC, in Olokoro, Umuahia South LGA of Abia State, Chief Mark Ugorji, insisted that the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027 is sacrosanct.
Ugorji who is also a leader of Tinubu Support Group (TSG) which campaigned vigorously for the election of President Tinubu in 2023, said anyone in the party and Ward 2 who has not aligned himself with this ideology of ensuring that President Tinubu emerges in 2027, is sitting on the fence.
Ugorji who emphasized that the era of using APC for business is over, stressed the need for members to understand that the party is in for genuine business and would stop at nothing until President Tinubu is re-elected in 2027.
He encouraged them to support the re-election of President Tinubu come 2027, revealing that the President is not happy with the votes Abia State gave APC in 2023, saying he is poised to ensure that the mistakes of 2023 is corrected in 2027.
In his words, “Re-election of President Tinubu in 2027 is not about Ugorji, it’s about securing good future of our youths, about ensuring that there will be job opportunities for the unemployed.
“I have to also emphasize that it is very important that we realize that the era of using the APC for business is over. We all must work hard to ensure that we deliver our Ward and by extension, the entire Abia South. Let us do our beats to ensure that we commit to this project, which is electing President Tinubu in 2027.”
He assured party faithful that as a senior leader in the Tinubu Support Group, he will ensure that their support for President Tinubu in 2027, does not go unrewarded, urging them to spread the message of the re-election of President Tinubu in 2027.
Ugorji insisted that there is no vacancy in Aso Rock in 2027 just as he assured them that he will ensure that everyone is carried along.
On absence of regular meetings of the Ward 2 in Olokoro, Ugorji who stated that his attention was drawn to it, used the opportunity to dispel the rumour that the absence of meeting is causing disintegration in the party while also assuring that going forward, Ahia Ukwu Olokoro Ward 2 will be having regular meetings.
Responding to threats that the meeting of Ward 2 will not hold on Saturday, he laughed off such threats, describing it as threat from unscrupulous elements who are bringing bad name to Olokoro, maintaining that the story of Olokoro must change for good come 2027.
In their separate responses, Ugochukwu Mba and Emeka Nzemadu, APC Zonal Youth Leader, declared support for Chief Mark Ugorji, urging other party faithful to rally round him in whatever capacity he is gunning for.
