IGP Assigns SIS to Imo Amid Rising Insecurity

The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun has deployed Special Intervention Squad (SIS) to Imo State to assist in fighting criminal activities amid rising insecurity in the State.

This was disclosed to journalists through a press statement issued from the desk of the State Police Command, DSP Henry Okoye, who stated that the move was in line with the ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of every resident of the State.

Okoye added that the deployment was part of the IGP’s ongoing commitment to enhancing peace, tackling criminal activities, and ensuring security across the three Geopolitical Zones in the State.

He revealed that the deployment, which comprised over 60 specially trained and equipped personnel, is tasked with reducing crime, dismantling criminal networks, and addressing security threats to the State’s stability.

The Command’s spokesperson revealed that the unit would work as a unified force in collaboration with the State Police Command, other security agencies, and local vigilantes to implement what he termed, a comprehensive strategy for enhancing public safety across the State.

According to him,“The deployed personnel will be strategically stationed across the State’s three senatorial districts, with a particular focus on areas that have experienced heightened security concerns.

Okoye narrated that following the new deployment, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, expressed his gratitude to the IGP for the proactive deployment of the special squad and acknowledged the invaluable support of the Governor of the State, Hope Uzodinma.

Danjuma, pointed out that the Governor’s unwavering commitment, particularly in welfare and logistics, has been instrumental to the success of the deployment and has significantly boosted the morale of the personnel.

The special squad, according to Okoye, was first launched in July 2023, which he maintained,has played a key role in addressing nationwide security challenges.
