Abia State Police Command has reacted to the suspected Police invasion at De Latinos Concept, one of the biggest entertainment and hospitality Companies in the State on Sunday night, saying findings will be made public.
There were reports that the incident which was reportedly caused by a disagreement over Suya Meat, degenerated into a full-blown attack on the establishment.
Sources on ground stated that trouble started when Police Officers attempted to enter the premises with meat purchased from outside, adding that a bouncer who was stationed, reportedly stopped them, hinging it on the policy of the establishment against bringing in outside food.
Southeastposts gathered that the stoppage led to serious altercation which forced the officers to leave at the moment and returned with a truckload of armed men who allegedly launched an attack, assaulting staff and guests while vandalizing equipment within the facility.
It was further alleged that the men opened fire while firing teargas on staff and customers. It was reported that the raid resulted in the destruction of goods and property worth millions of naira, with several individuals sustaining varying degrees of injuries.
Sources who watched the imbroglio described it as a terrifying experience, informing that scores of victims were rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) Umuahia for urgent medical attention.
Reacting to the development on Monday, the Police Public Relations Officer PPRO, Abia State Command, DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, said the Commissioner of Police, Abia State, CP Danladi Isa has visited the scene of incident, stating that Officers and some staff of De Latinos are currently under interrogation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).
DSP Chinaka revealed that investigations into the incident is ongoing and findings will be communicated to the public as it progresses.
