Abia PDP Suspends Wabara, Begins Search for New BoT Chairman

The State Working Committee (SWC) of the People’s Democratic Party, (PDP), in Abia State, has announced the suspension of the Chairman Board of Trustee, BoT of the party, Senator Adolphus Wabara for one month.

The SWC, also announced that in the interim, Senator Adolphus Wabara has ceased to be the Chairman Board of Trustee of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, stressing that this decision has been communicated to the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party.

Justifying the reason for the suspension while addressing Journalists on Tuesday in Umuahia, the Chairman of the party, Elder Abraham Amah, said in October 2023, Wabara through his statement, endorsed the current Governor of Abia State, Governor Alex Otti for second tenure when the administration was barely 5 months.

He said it is the resolution of the State Working Committee/State Executive Committee to invoke the relevant provisions of the PDP Constitution (2017 as amended) for the purposes of suspending from the party, Senator Adolphus Wabara, in conformity with the disciplinary procedures and guidelines for erring members.

Elder Amah stated that following a memo by the member of the State Executive Committee and the Treasurer Barr. Chizuru Kanu, it became pertinent for the party to take decisive actions against the statement credited to Wabara, stressing that one way to reposition the party is ensuring that there is discipline among members.

He said the action by the former Senate President who has also refused to refute the statement credited to him in the media space amounts to anti-party and is also tantamount to bridge of party loyalty, adding that it has dampened the morale of PDP faithful as well as emboldened the ruling Labour Party in the State.

Speaking on the relevant sections of the Constitution backing their decision, Amah said Article 58(1) and Article 59(1) of the PDP Constitution (2017 as amended) empowers the State Executive Committee (SEC) to discipline any member of the Party, who commits any offence(s) provided by the Party’s Constitution, irrespective of the members status.

Amah said, ” The actions or inactions of Senator Adolphus Wabara have demoralized the credibility of the PDP, demoralized party members /Stakeholders and further armed the opposition and gravely constitute gross anti party activity.

“There is need to ensure discipline amongst party members across board, irrespective of status.

“Let it be known by all party members, Stakeholders and the General Public, that sequel to the foregoing and consequent upon the far reaching implications of Senator Adolphus Wabara’s acts of sabotage against the party, the SEC hereby invokes the provisions of Articles 57(1),(2),(3), 58(1)(b) & (f) and 59(1) of the party’s Constitution (2017 as amended) against Senator Adolphus Wabara and hereby places him on ONE (1) SUSPENSION from party activities.

“Furthermore, in compliance with the provisions of Articles 59(1) (e) & (f) of the party’s Constitution (2017 as amended) Senator Adolphus Wabara henceforth is debarred from holding any party office and therefore equally removed from office as BOT Chairman of PDP.

Elder Amah, however, revealed that in line with the disciplinary procedures of the party, a seven man disciplinary committee will be set up to immediately investigate Senator Adolphus Wabara’s actions.

Speaking while lending his voice for Senator Adolphus Wabara to be suspended, the State Treasurer of the People’s Democratic Party PDP, Barr. Chizuru Kanu, noted that the constitution of the party is clear on this, pointing out that Senator Wabara should be suspended with a fine, debarred from holding any office, maintaining that it is a way of repositioning the party.

Correspondent reports that the State Organising Secretary of the PDP Obinna Okey, seconded the motion for the BoT Chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara to be suspended for one month over acts of sabotage and anti-party activities.
