Yet to be Confirmed Number of Persons Die in Fuel Tanker Explosion in Enugu

A yet to be confirmed number of persons died in a fuel tanker explosion at Ugwu Onyeama, Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, a few kilometres from the Enugu metropolis, on Saturday.

Some reports put the casualty figure at over 10, Though the figure has not been verified, and none of the emergency responders have made a statement.

According to reports, the explosion was said to have occurred around 11:30 a.m. when a tanker laden with petrol exploded on the busy road.

Observers said the effects of the explosion were very devastating and destroyed many nearby vehicles, as well as kill many persons.

It was further gathered that the intensity of the fire thwarted rescue efforts. The victims, who were reportedly burnt beyond recognition, were believed to be occupants of the vehicles caught in the inferno.

Meanwhile, the Police and road safety authorities were yet to confirm the number of casualties or the cause of the explosion as at press time.
