The Commissioner for Environment, Mr Philemon Asonye Ogbonna has urged hotel owners, managers to warn their workers against disposing wastes into roads, public drains and gutters as these acts block drainages.
The Commissioner handed down the warning during a meeting with Hotel Owners and Managers in the State organised by the Ministry of Arts, Culture and Creative Economy at the Conference Hall of the Ministry at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Secretariat, Umuahia, the State capital.
Th Commissioner said that one of the objectives of the State Governor, Alex Chioma Otti led administration in the State is to encourage businesses by providing a conducive environment for them, adding that there is need for the businesses to operate within acceptable environmental practices.
Mr. Ogbonna hinted that only wastes that have been certified as not hazardous to the public and environment could be discharged to the public drains.
He pointed out that the Ministry will from henceforth, monitor compliance to this directive across hotels and eateries in the State, and deal with violators accordingly.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr. Ikechukwu Chidozie Oriuwa and the Directors of the Ministry were present during the meeting.
