Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has announced plans to involve members of the Nigerian Legion in safeguarding government assets within the state.
Uzodimma who spoke at the launch of the 2025 Armed Forces Remembrance Day and Emblem Appeal Fund in Owerri, emphasized that while the veterans may be retired, they remain valuable contributors to the society.
Southeastposts gathered that during the event, held at the Sam Mbakwe Executive Council Chambers, Governor Uzodimma presented a brand-new 18-seater VIP bus to the Nigerian Legion, fulfilling their request for transportation support.
The Governor also made undisclosed cash donations to assist the organization, support families of fallen heroes, and enhance peacekeeping efforts in the state
Uzodimma lauded the sacrifices of the retired soldiers, describing their contributions to Nigeria’s unity and peace as immeasurable.
He tasked them to remain active, saying that, “The peace we enjoy today is a result of the supreme sacrifice made by our past heroes. We must reciprocate by supporting those they left behind.”
He advised that the state’s emblem fundraising event be synchronized with the federal government’s activities to maximize financial support for the Legion while reiterating his administration’s commitment to partnering with the veterans to protect public and private assets and maintain peace across Imo State.
Governor Uzodimma also commended the security agencies, including the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Police, for their dedication to combating insurgency and maintaining order in the state just as he assured continued collaboration with the Nigerian Legion to address pressing security challenges.
