Governor Alex Otti on Monday presented twenty brand new hilux vehicles equipped with modern gadgets to strengthen the efforts of security agents in Abia State.
Speaking while presenting the vehicles at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia, Otti recalled that his government took security as one of his priorities when he came on board.
The Governor revealed that his efforts to make Abia safe attracted the establishment of operation crush which has assisted in arresting the security challenges witnessed within Umunneochi and Isiukwuato.
He said the state security council resolved few weeks ago to rejig the security strategy after some criminals came from outside the state, attacked and killed some security personnel, adding that this made the state government acquire security vans to support and encourage security agents in the state.
Governor Otti hinted that many of the criminals who dared the state have been arrested, warning that Abia will not accommodate those who do not want to act within the ambits of the law.
He stressed that whatever the state government is doing amounts to nothing if the state security is compromised, maintaining that the state is spending a lot on information gathering just as he advised the service commanders to warn their men to stay away from any criminal activity, as well as extorting people.
He assured that his administration would continue to prioritize security and will always give them maximum support.
Speaking on behalf of the Service Commanders, the Commander, 14 Brigade Army Ohafia, O.O Diya, thanked Governor Otti for the gesture and appealed to Abians to always furnish them with vital information to assist them in rid the state of crime.
On his part, the Special Adviser to Governor Alex Otti on security matters, Navy Commodore Macdonald Uba (Rtd), said state government will continue to render support to security agents.
Uba who said this in an interview, said they will stop at nothing to flush out hoodlums. He announced that the Police received 7 vehicles, Army 5, Navy 3, DSS 3 and civil defense 2.
He added that the joint task force recently on the roads was one of the measures taken to secure Abians before, during and after the yuletide.
Also speaking, the state Commandant, Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps, NSCDC, Akinshola Aderemi promised that they would continue to partner other sister security agencies to secure lives and property in the state.
He commended the state Governor for all his support to security agents in the state and promised not to compromise the fight against oil theft.
