Southeastposts.com, has learnt that members of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, JUSUN in Abia State have signed a memorandum of understanding with the State Government, thus announcing the suspension of the strike action they embarked on, ten days ago.
It was learnt that the Chairman of JUSUN in Abia, Chinedu Eze announced this on Monday, during a meeting of the union held in the High Court complex Umuahia.
He affirmed that the action followed a memorandum of understanding between JUSUN and the Abia State government on the implementation of the new minimum wage among other sundry matters.
It was further gathered that the memorandum, signed by the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Ikechukwu Uwanna, the National President of JUSUN, Marwan Adamu, the State Chairman of JUSUN, Chinedu Eze as well as the State Assistant Secretary, Chibueze Nwachukwu, explained that the suspension of the strike was with immediate effect.
The statement said neither the executives nor members of the union would be penalized for participating in the industrial action.
According to the memorandum, the state government has approved the implementation of the national minimum wage in line with the CONJUS scale for the judiciary staff from October 2024, while Rice palliative and other entitlements would be provided for the judiciary staff in line with other public servants in the state.
The memorandum further stated that entitlements for retirees of the judiciary shall be paid while a negotiation team that will meet regularly to resolve the issues between the Union and government shall be constituted without further delay.
The memorandum commended the Abia State government for its sensitivity to the yearnings of the staff and pledged its loyalty to the policies of the state government.
It is expected that with the suspension of the strike, cases that were left unattended since the strike commenced last week and other legal services, can now be attended to.
