Thugs Allegedly Attack Ranger’s Team Bus, Plateau United Deny having Link

After a goalless draw with Plateau United on Match Day 11 of the 2024/2025 Nigerian Premier Football League in Jos, Enugu Rangers International FC faced a disturbing incident on Sunday, as alleged thugs reportedly attacked the team’s bus.

Southeastposts, gathered that in the violent encounter, several members of the Flying Antelopes, including players and coaches, sustained injuries.

Images and videos circulating on social media have shown some team members visibly wounded and bleeding, sparking outrage among fans and the football community.

Meanwhile, Rangers’ General Manager, Amobi Ezeaku, confirmed the attack, describing it as “unwarranted.” He assured supporters that the club would not rest until justice is served, emphasizing that Rangers had already submitted a petition to the relevant authorities.

He said, Rangers’ fans and stakeholders in Nigerian football are closely watching the situation, calling for stricter measures to curb violence against teams and officials in the league.

Ezeaku’s statement read, “We wish to inform you about the unfortunate incident that occurred during our match against Plateau United in Jos. The attack on our team was unwarranted, and we are taking all necessary steps to ensure justice is served. A petition has been submitted to the relevant authorities, and we will not rest until this issue is thoroughly addressed and resolved.

The coach further reassured supporters that all team members were safe and on their way back to Enugu. “Your unwavering support and prayers mean everything to us during these challenging times. We appreciate you standing by us as we uphold the spirit of Rangers,” he said.

The club also called on the Nigerian football community to condemn violence in sports and to join hands in promoting a safe and respectful environment for all stakeholders in the league.

The recent attack on the Rangers team bus after their 1-1 draw with Plateau United in Jos has been sharply denounced by Rangers International supporters and Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) fans.

Plateau United has refuted any role in the incident, nevertheless. Yaksat Maklek, the club’s media officer, released a statement in which the management denied Rangers’ charges and described them as false.

He promised that following the game, there would be no harassment of the Rangers officials and players as they exited New Jos Stadium.

The attack has raised concerns about fan behaviour and security in the NPFL, with many calling for stronger measures to protect players and officials both inside and outside the stadiums.
