During the inuaguration of the Justice Ikwuoma Duruoha-Igwe (Rtd) Panel on recovery of government properties, Governor Alex Otti said his administration was inundated with several petitions alleging the looting of government properties by state officials.
Some of the duties of the panel are to ascertain whether government movable and immovable assets were illegally acquired, occupied or converted to private use and to identify such persons; Make recommendations for the recovery of such assets and apportion appropriate sanctions on such persons.
The panel will investigate Land allocations and revocations in the state from May 2015-May 2023 to determine the propriety of such allocations and revocations.
The Justice Ikwuoma Duruoha-Igwe Panel. will also look into Contract awards and executions from May 2015 to May 2023.
The state may suspend or redeploy top officials found culpabe in its ongoing administrative shake-up and by the Panel of Inquiry tasked with recovery of the allegedly stolen government properties and those converted to private use by civil service officials.
The sweeping suspension of the Head of Service, Onyii Wamah and Permanent Secretaries were steps taken to further assist the Panel members to work without interference or obstruction or intimidation
“The suspended Permanent Secretaries are all presumed innocent and may still be recalled to their positions if nothing indicting is proved against them,” said the government official, still under anonymity.
The Panel may beam its searchlight to activities of ministries in the Director’s cadre, Departments and Agencies responsible for essential civil service administration in the last regime.
PDP Chieftains in the state, and Chief John Okeiyi Kalu, the immediate past Commissioner for Trade and Investment, are critical of the move, alleging that it is a witch-hunt mission against actors of the immediate past administration.
